The National Library of Scotland faced a critical perception problem – many viewed it as a dusty archive and not the vibrant cultural force it truly is.
So, to coincide with the Library’s centenary, we led a strategic and creative review, resulting in a rebrand which sought to reposition NLS as an inclusive, essential part of Scotland’s future, not just its past.
We evolved the original open book brand marque into one that embraced collection, connection and community. A bold, modern colour palette reflected both the energy and contemporary mission of the institution. A solution rooted in knowledge, belonging and cohesion – demonstrating the continued importance and relevance of the Library 100 years into its journey.
The new identity flexed across everything from exhibitions to digital platforms. Needless to say, there was an accompanying and comprehensive set of brand guidelines to keep everyone, internally and externally, on the straight and narrow.
