The Union topped the total number of awards won at the The Marketing Society Scotland Star Awards 2022. Winning a total of ten awards (2 Golds, 2 Silvers and 6 Bronzes) for seven clients, the agency demonstrated the breadth and quality of its creative output at the highly competitive event. The awards are judged by panels of independent experts; they aim to measure effectiveness of marketing investment.

The winning clients were Scottish Government, Police Scotland, Zero Waste Scotland, Food Standards Scotland, VisitScotland, The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service and Scotland Food & Drink. All parts of the Union Group were involved; with entries from The Union, Union Direct and Union Data.

Gold Awards went to Scottish Government for the Teacher Recruitment campaign in the Digital Communications category and Scotland Food & Drink in the Food and Drink category.

Union staff were also nominated for individual awards; Michael Hart for Inspirational Agency leader, Rachel McMullan for Rising Agency Star, and Jeanette Marshall for Rising Creative Star, demonstrating the strength in depth of the Union team.

The event was attended by over 600 people from the marketing industry in Scotland at the O2 Academy Edinburgh (Corn Exchange); the first time the industry had convened in person since the pandemic.

The Union was also shortlisted for Agency of the Year, an accolade it won in 2021.

The full list of the Union entries and awards is available on the agency’s website.

Commenting on the awards, Ian McAteer, the agency’s Chairman, said: “These awards seem to get tougher and tougher each year. This year there was a record number of entries, and it is worth reflecting that with 32 agencies and clients being shortlisted, and only four agencies winning more than five awards, our achievement in gaining ten awards speaks volumes as to the quality of our people and our output. A huge effort went into writing the papers and collating the evidence, and huge thanks must go to all our clients and the Unionites who contributed to this result.”

The agency’s Creative Director, Michael Hart, added: “These awards are the annual litmus test of quality in our sector. We think it is vital to benchmark what we do against the best in the industry. It goes without saying we are delighted that our work has been recognised in this way.”
